What is the 8th Pay Commission?
The 8th Pay Commission is set up by the government to review and change the salary structure of central government employees.
Earlier, the 7th Pay Commission replaced the old grade pay system with levels in a pay matrix. Over time, these commissions have helped employees get better pay as per the economy.
8th Pay Commission Date
The 8th Pay Commission is likely to start on 1 January 2026. This follows the usual 10-year gap between pay commissions.
It will benefit around 50 lakh employees, including defence staff, and more than 60 lakh pensioners.
8th Pay Commission Salary Structure
Basic Pay: The fitment factor will be applied to current basic salary to fix the new salary.
Allowances: DA, HRA, and TA will be recalculated as per the new pay.
Gross Salary: The total salary will include new basic pay and revised allowances.
8th Pay Commission Salary Hike
Employees can expect a 30% to 34% increase in salary. The fitment factor is likely between 1.83 and 2.46.
Dearness Allowance (DA), which is now 55% of basic pay, will reset to zero after the new commission. So, the rise will be a little less than it looks at first.

The fitment factor will range from 1.83 to 2.46.
If the factor is higher, the salary will rise more. This will help employees and pensioners get pay in line with today’s cost of living.
